A terminal in Linux is software that takes commands from users, executes them from the OS, and returns output to users. They are also called shell and console.

This article explores the different ways to open a terminal on CentOS 8.

There are five ways. I will demonstrate this to you one by one.

Open a terminal using the Actions menu.

Step 1. When you login, the following interface will appear. Click the Actions option in the upper left corner.

Step 2. Click the icon Terminal icon icon.

As soon as you pressed Terminal icon icon, the terminal will look like below.

Step 1. Click the “Actions” button located in the upper right corner.

Step 2. Enter “terminal” in the search bar. Terminal Terminal icon icon appears. Click this icon.

As soon as you press the button Terminal , a terminal window will appear as shown below.

Open a terminal using the Alt + F1 key combination.

Step 1. At any time, simultaneously press “Alt” and “F1” on the keyboard. The following window should appear.

Once you click on the icon, a terminal window will appear.

Step 1. Click the icon Point icon icon.

Click the dot icon

Step 2. Click the “Settings” icon.

Step 3. Scroll down until you find “Devices” and click it.

Step 4. Click “Keyboard” and then the search icon located in the upper right corner. Type “run”. As soon as you enter text, “Show Startup Command Prompt” appears. Either click on it, or simultaneously press the Alt and F2 keys on your keyboard.

Step 5. A pop-up window will appear, type “gnome-terminal” and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

Once you hit the Enter key in the previous step, a terminal will appear as shown below.

Open a terminal by creating your own keyboard shortcut

This is one of the most effective ways to open an article. Using this method, you only need to press one or two keys on the keyboard.

Step 1. Click the icon Point icon icon.

Click the dot icon in the navigation bar.

Step 2. Click the “Settings” icon.

Step 3. Scroll down until you find “Devices” and click it.

Step 6. A pop-up window will appear, enter the following information.

Name: Terminal

Command: gnome terminal

Label: Ctrl + Alt + T (you can set any key combination you want)

Click the Add button in the upper right corner.

Step 7. You can use this key to open a terminal window. Just press “Ctrl + Alt + T” and a terminal window will appear.
