Apple Maps has come a long way in the past few years. While it’s nowhere close For Google Maps, many iPhone users often use Apple Maps for specific experiences and details. And those who do often find that the Apple Maps does not work. If you are facing the same problem on your iPhone, then read on to find out how to fix this problem.
Let’s look at all the possible solutions to the problem so that you can get back where you went. In the meantime, if you’re stuck or in a hurry, we recommend using an alternative like Google Maps.
1. Restart the app or iPhone
In most cases, simply restarting the Apple Maps app or restarting your iPhone can fix the problem. We encourage you to try this, even if it sounds too easy. There is no way to clear cache or app data like there is with Android smartphones. So this is the only way.
2. Switch off WLAN
If you’re connecting to a Wi-Fi network, it may not work or it may be too slow to load maps. It’s time to switch to cellular data. To quickly turn off Wi-Fi, open Control Center and make sure the cellular data icon is turned on.
3. Activate cellular data for cards
You have activated cellular data, your tariff is active and you still have enough bandwidth. However, the cellular option must be activated for individual apps in the settings. Maybe it’s disabled for Apple Maps?
Open Settings> Cellular and toggle Apple Maps if you haven’t already.
4. Check cover
Open minded Signal is a great app for checking if there is adequate cellular coverage in your area. Your network provider may be missing or offering slow speeds and having connection problems. Using Open Signal, you can record the cellular network near you and move it to a place with better Signal switch. It will show the locations of cell towers on a map so you can easily keep track of them.
5. Activate location service for maps
We just saw how we need to turn on cellular service for apps like Maps one at a time. The same goes for GPS. You need to enable it along with a few other options for Maps to do its job.
Open Settings> Privacy> Location Services> Maps and you will see three options. You need to select while using the app.
We have also enabled “Precise Location for Maps” as this provides better and more accurate results for your current location.
6. Deactivate Bluetooth
Bluetooth can be unreliable at times, especially when it’s working the most. Turn off bluetooth if you’re using it to connect to external GPS devices like Fitbit or even your car’s GPS device. While not required, we recommend restarting the Apple Maps app once.
7. Memory problems
You should only pay attention to this if the Apple Maps app crashes. What happens is the app stops working abruptly because there is no more space to write data and it crashes. Maps app will closeand you are returned to the home screen. In addition, Apple charges a premium for additional storage. Many users choose models with lower memory to save money.
You can check the storage in Settings> General> iPhone Storage. You can see the total remaining storage space with an app-by-app breakdown of every single app installed on the iPhone. Another way to free up space is to upload some of the files to iCloud or Google Photos.
8. Reset network settings
iPhone users facing network-related issues should try resetting network settings on iPhone. This has nothing to do with your apps and data, and you can always back up to iCloud if you are concerned.
Go to Settings> General> Reset and choose Reset Network Settings.
For security reasons, you will be asked to enter the passcode. Follow the instructions on the screen. Note that you will have to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and re-enter the password, so make sure you have it with you.
9. Reset location and privacy settings
The same logic applies here as in the previous point. Resetting your location and privacy settings can help fix common errors with apps that rely on GPS to do their work. Navigate back to the same screen as in the previous step, but this time select the Reset Location & Privacy option.
Note that every GPS app you have installed on your iPhone will ask for permission again. Tap Allow when the pop-up appears. It should when you launch the Apple Maps app.
Map of my world
Apple Maps is good, but Google Maps is still blowing it out of the water. Also, there are many offline map apps that you can use without an active internet connection. We recommend using them as internet and cellular connectivity have improved. However, they still aren’t there, especially if you’re on a road trip to remote locations. What do you think?
