Alacritty is a free open source terminal emulator for Linux, Windows, and BSD. Use the GPU for rendering to speed things up. It comes with vi mode that mimics the movement of the vi cursor, the selection, copies the text to the clipboard and opens the URL. Some other features are Vi search and regular search. Written in Rust and released under Apache License 2.0. It’s a simple but fastest and most powerful terminal emulator. Supports true colors and standard 16 ANSI colors. You can configure Alacritty by editing the template file in YAML format.
Install Alacritty terminal emulator on Ubuntu
Alacritty is available from the official Ubuntu PPA. You can install it from the terminal application. Open the terminal app (ctrl + alt + t) and run the following command to add the PPA.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:aslatter/ppa
If necessary, enter your Ubuntu user password and press Enter to check for PPA addiction. Then run the following command:
sudo apt-get update
Then run the alacritty terminal emulator install command.
sudo apt install alacritty
After installing alacritty, you can open it with the following command.
