Audacity Audio Editor 3.0.0 was released a day ago as a new major update.
Audacity 3.0.0 features the .aup3 project format. Audio projects were previously stored as a number of small data files, along with “.aup” files for adjusting lots. The project is now saved in the new all-in-one file aup3 file format.
Editing audio in a new .aup3 project should be a bit faster than before, but it can be quite slow to finish and close the project at the end.
If you open the old .aup project with the new version, it will be converted to the new .aup3 format.
Other changes Audacity 3.0.0 include:
- Improved “noise gate” effect
- Add a new analyzer, Label Sounds, to label sound and silence.
- Macro import and export
- New command to use the last used tool or analyzer
- Over 160 bug fixes since version 2.4.2.
