Chromium and Ungoogleed Chromium web browsers are now available on Flathub

Chrome web browser Now available at Flathub, Can be easily installed and updated in many Linux distributions. Following the standard Chromium browser, Ungoogled Chromium has also been added to Flathub.

It is mentioned in the request to add Chromium to Flahub that the flatpak package comes with:

  • Flatpak native support
  • Support VA-API, OpenH264 and libfdk-aac
  • Support Widevine
  • Experimental XDG portal support (so file system access is not required in this case), but it has been disabled by default for the following reasons this problem
  • Openly support native messaging host as another extension point

I want to point out that although the Chromium browser installed from Flathub has VA-API support, Nvidia graphics using the VDPAU-based VA-API backend (libva-vdpau-driver) cannot be used. For AMD/Intel graphics cards, enable Hardware-accelerated video decode From chrome://flagsAnd then install h264ify If your graphics itself cannot decode VP8/VP9, then expand.

To install the Chromium web browser from Flathub, make sure you have Flatpak settings for Linux distributions, Then add the Flathub repository and install it:

flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub

flatpak install flathub org.chromium.Chromium

In the Chromium browser, Not Google Chrome It has also been added to Flathub. This is Chromium, does not rely on Google Web services, while keeping the default Chromium experience as much as possible.

Web browsers have also made some adjustments to enhance privacy, control, and transparency, but most of them are not enabled by default. See this page An overview of Chrome features without Google View.

Flathub’s Ungoogleed Chromium flatpak package has the same patches as Chromium in most cases, minus all patches from Google (so there is no Widevine etc.).

You can install Ungoogled Chromium from Flathub using the following methods:

flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub

flatpak install flathub com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium
