Want to install Chromium web browser via deb rather than snap package? Linux Mint 20 includes a browser (Chromium 86 so far) in its own repositories for both Ubuntu-based and LMDE editions.
Since Ubuntu 20.04, the main repository Chrome Browser is a dummy package. When I try to install it, I am redirected to SNAP (a containerized software package).
The Linux Mint team opposed this change and removed the package from the main repository.
However, starting a package exchange for no good reason can have a negative impact on upstream projects and interactions with software vendors, and can be a threat if you start reducing your choices.
The Chromium browser will now revert to the official repositories for both Linux Mint and LMDE. And it’s a deb package built by the Linux Mint team.
