How to enable PowerTools repository on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 Linux computer? By default, the PowerTools repository is not enabled on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 Linux. The repository contains many software packages that are required as dependencies when installing other applications, and in most cases the application is built from source code.

Some packages in PowerTools are:

  • Device mapper development
  • kmod-devel
  • me feet
  • Ordinary people
  • mariadb-common
  • mingw64 and mesa packages
  • OpenCV
  • perl- *
  • Segment development
  • xorg-x11-server-devel
  • with Many others

To be able to enable the PowerTools repository on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 from the command line interface. First install the DNF plug-in package:

sudo dnf -y install dnf-plugins-core

Install EPEL repository – PowerTools repository and EPEL repository are best friends. Therefore also enable the EPEL repository.

sudo dnf -y install https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-8.noarch.rpm

Enable the PowerTools repository on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8:

sudo dnf config-manager --set-enabled PowerTools

Confirm that it is enabled:

$ sudo dnf repolist
