After the patience of fans and enthusiasts, Fedora 32 was released on April 28, 2020, and there are no obstacles to putting it into practice. Because it is now officially released.

Excellent features of Fedora 32 workstation

1. GNOME 3.36

Fedora 32 has released the latest clothing in town. GNOME 3.26 is the latest version of GNOME, and it has many improvements and features that the community has been asking for. Gnome 3.26 has the following features.

Better app search

With the talent and obvious effort in the new version, it is now amazing that you can now search for lock screen, shutdown, logout and other applications in a beautiful layout. It is well integrated with a screen that can be oriented vertically or horizontally, making it very sweet to interact with people.

Set up a new design on the app

Renamed to Settings, the GNOME Control Center now has an easy-to-use sidebar, which attracts users through intuitive and smooth navigation of the settings area. In addition, the category now has more information about your system, including the window system you are running (eg Wayland)

Better nautilus

If you like to easily search for files or directories or work hard, then the new Nautilus will really satisfy you. Try it and see if it can find what you want.

New extended application

Fedora 32 has new extension applications to easily manage your GNOME extensions. In the past, extensions were installed, configured, and enabled using “software” applications and / or “adjustment tools.”

GNOME Shell has received many visual and functional improvements in this version.

  • Power / logout options have been reorganized. There is now a visible suspend option that makes it easier to suspend the computer!
  • Now, system dialogs that require a password can choose to display the password text by clicking the “eye” icon.
  • Most (if not all) system dialogs have been redesigned to make them more consistent and easier to read.
  • You can now rename the application folder in the application overview.
  • The entire interface has been greatly improved, with particular emphasis on calendar pop-ups and overview searches.

Redesigned login screen

In order to improve the login and unlock experience in GNOME 3.26, a lot of design has been done. The final lock screen is more powerful, easier to use, and concise.

2. By default, EarlyOOM

Linux has an oom-killer in the kernel. It will start when the system is struggling due to the technical problem of insufficient memory. It appears when the system cannot take other measures to save itself from a memory storm. It will continue to operate and swap out the desktop environment, delete the entire page cache and clear each buffer before finally terminating the process. The result is that the system may not respond at all, and unfortunately brings a bad reputation.

The Early Out of Memory (EarlyOOM) daemon, located in user space, is designed to solve this problem by checking the amount of memory and swapping it frequently. Its role is to trigger Linux’s oom-killer more quickly before the system encounters too much memory and causes a completely unresponsive problem. By default, if the available memory and the amount of available memory are less than 10%, it will kill the largest process (highest oom_score).

3. Package update

The new version always means replacing old oil with new oil. Fedora 32 comes with various new software packages outlined below. Package updates such as semi-final

GCC 10 code compiler

Even though GCC 10 has not been officially released, it still has the following overall improvements

  • Profile-driven optimization improvements
  • Optimization when linking
  • Optimization and improvement between processes
  • New command line options
  • New built-in features

Glibc 2.31

The GNU C library project provides core libraries for GNU systems and GNU / Linux systems, as well as many other systems that use Linux as the kernel.

By default, TRIM is enabled for SSD

TRIM is an Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) command, which enables the operating system to inform the solid state drive (SSD) that it no longer requires specific data blocks on the drive and can erase them internally. It has the advantages of extending SSD life and improving its data writing performance.

Python 3.8 and Ruby 2.7

Pythin has now gained a lot of attention in the development field, and with the rapid development of data science, Fedora 32 has not flinched, but uses Python 3.8 by default to prepare the world. Despite this, the old python27 software package is still available for developers and users who still need it.

Firewalld now uses nftables by default in this new Fedora version
