Getting started with the Vesta control panel

In this article, we are going to show you step by step instructions for installing Vesta control panel on Ubuntu 16.04 VPS and will help you get started with it. Vesta Control Panel (VestaCP) is an open source hosting control panel that can be used to manage multiple websites, create and manage email accounts, FTP accounts and MySQL databases, manage DNS records, and more.

System update

Make sure your list of OS packages is up to date by running the following commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

In addition, you can configure automatic updates.

Installing VestaCP

It is recommended to have a minimal base OS installation package, so stop and uninstall Apache, MySQL, etc. and remove their config files, for example:

systemctl stop apache2
systemctl stop mysql
apt-get purge apache2* libapache2* mysql-client* mysql-common* mysql-server*
apt autoremove

Install curl package:

apt-get install curl

Installing VestaCP is pretty simple: Log in to the server via SSH using the superuser, download the installation script and run it:

curl -O http://vestacp.com/pub/vst-install.sh
bash vst-install.sh

In addition, you can customize the installation using the parameter settings at https://vestacp.com/install/ and install Nginx, PHP-FPM, ProFTPD, Exim, Dovecot, SpamAssassin, named, Iptables, MySQL and use the file system quotas:

bash vst-install.sh --nginx yes --phpfpm yes --apache no --named yes --remi no --vsftpd no --proftpd yes --iptables yes --fail2ban no --quota yes --exim yes --dovecot yes --spamassassin yes --clamav no --mysql yes --postgresql no --hostname your-domain.com --email [email protected] --password Y0ur_PaS5w0rD

Remember to change “your-domain.com” to a valid domain name and use a strong password for the admin user in VestaCP.

If everything is ok, you should get this output:
