On Ubuntu disk partitions, icons for other system volumes and removable USB devices will appear on the dock and desktop on the left side of Ubuntu. If you don’t like this feature, you can easily hide the mounted disk partition, system volume and removable device icons from Ubuntu’s Ubuntu Dock and Desktop.
How to hide mounted drives in Ubuntu
You can hide the mounted drive from your desktop and Ubuntu dock using the Terminal app and simple commands.
How to hide mounted disks and USB drives from Ubuntu desktop:
Open the Terminal app (ctrl + alt + t) and run the following command to hide all mounted USB drives, disk partitions, system volumes, or other removable devices from your Ubuntu desktop.
gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.desktop-icons show-mount false
To re-enable the drive mounted on your Ubuntu desktop, simply run the following command:
gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.desktop-icons show-mount true
How to hide mounted disks and USB drives from Ubuntu Ubuntu left dock panel:
In the Terminal app, run this gnome shell dash to dock extension command to hide all drives from Ubuntu dash to the dock.
gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock show-mounts false
You can also use this command to redisplay all drives from the Ubuntu dock.
gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock show-mounts true
