How to accept a previously rejected event in Microsoft Outlook

Have you ever turned down an event request only to find that you have to accept it and attend? What happens to these declined invitations? We explain where to go and how to accept a previously rejected event in Outlook.

When you receive an invitation in Outlook, it will appear as temporary in your calendar. This is a handy indication that you must respond and either accept or decline. If you agree, it will stay on your calendar. However, if you decline, the invitation disappears.

Find a declined event invitation in Outlook

Whether you are using Microsoft Outlook On your desktop, the web, or mobile device, these declined invitations will all move to the same place: your Deleted Items folder.

Open minded Outlook on the platform of your choice and go to Mail. Select your Deleted Items folder in Outlook E-mail. You should see this declined invitation on your list.

If your Deleted Items folder is empty, the best thing to do is to ask the meeting organizer to resend it to you. Alternatively, you can recover files that you may have deleted Outlook Elements, depending on your mail server.

Accept a declined event invitation in Outlook

Once you find the declined invitation, you can open it and modify your reply to accept it right in the message. And just like the first time you accepted an event invitation, you can add a note to your response.

In addition to the invitation, you may see the actual event in your Deleted Items folder. You can also edit your answer using this option. Click Change Answer.

Select “Accept” (or “Temporarily” if you are not sure yet). And as with other invitations, you can edit the reply to send a note, send it as is, or send no reply at all and amaze everyone when you arrive.

By doing Outlook app on your mobile device, tap RSVP when you see the invitation in the Deleted folder. You can then tap “Accept” and send it on its way. It works the same way in Outlook on Android, iPhone and iPad.
