How to add a contact to the home screen on iPhone

At their core, iPhones are communication devices. So it makes sense to focus on the people you talk to the most. We’ll show you how to create shortcuts on the home screen for your favorite contacts.

Surprisingly, Apple doesn’t make it clear that this is even possible. The functionality is buried in the powerful Shortcuts app. It takes some work to set up, but it is not very complicated. Let’s begin.

There are basically two different actions that can be linked to contact links. You can have the shortcut that allows you to choose how you want to contact the person – message, call, FaceTime – or jump right into one of them. We’ll cover both.

Create links to contacts

First, open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad.

Go to All Links if you can’t get there right away.

For an even more direct link, you can jump straight to a text message, phone call, or FaceTime from the home screen.

First, open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad.

Next, you can choose who to contact. Some of the shortcuts also have additional options, such as the ability to pre-compose a message.

When choosing the person, you can simply search through your contacts. It is possible to select multiple people for some of the shortcuts.

Find a contact and tap Done.
