PowerPoint files come in two formats: PPTX files are editable PowerPoint presentations, and PPSX files are a read-only format for presentations. You can edit a PPSX file, but you need to convert it back to a PPTX format first.
Change the file extension
Before trying anything else it is always worthwhile to see if you can easily change the file extension. This sometimes works, although it depends on the version of Office You and your co-workers use it.
To change the file extension, right-click the file and choose Rename.
Change the file extension (if present in the file name) from .ppsx to .pptx.
Double-click the file to open it in PowerPoint as you normally would.
In our case, that didn’t work. The file will still open as a PPSX presentation. So let’s go ahead and try another way.
Save the file as PPTX
PowerPoint can convert a PPSX file to a PPTX file. Here is how.
First, open PowerPoint and choose File> Open to find the file you want to edit.
Go to File> Save As to save the file.
Select PowerPoint Presentation (* .pptx) from the drop-down menu in the top right to save the file as an editable file that you can share with colleagues. Don’t forget to hit the save button when you’re done.
Now when coworkers click to open the file, they’ll be taken to the PowerPoint editor for quick edits and revisions.
