How to change the 24 hour clock on Android

By default, Android displays the time in 12-hour format. While it is common in the US to split time in two, it is not in other parts of the world. How to enable the 24-hour clock (or “military time”) on Android.

Before we begin, it should be noted that almost every manufacturer lightly tweets Android’s user interface. Although these instructions and screenshots come with a Google Pixel 4 some menus and setting options may differ depending on the device.

When you’re ready to change the clock format to 24-hour, first open the settings menu on your Android smartphone or tablet. The quickest way to do this is to swipe down from the top of the screen once or twice and then tap the gear icon.

Alternatively, you can swipe up from the start screen of your device and select the “Settings” app from the app drawer.

Tap the

Find the “Time Format” section and uncheck “Use Locale Default”. After deactivation, you can activate the “Use 24-hour format” setting by tapping the corresponding switch.


As mentioned earlier, almost every Android manufacturer easily customizes the user interface. To the example, LG allows you to turn on “Use 24-hour format” without first turning off any other setting.
