How to install 1Password on Ubuntu via the official repository

1Password Password Manager officially adds Linux support. Here’s how to install it on Ubuntu 20.04 via the apt repository:

1Password is a password manager developed by AgileBits Inc. It provides a place for users to store various passwords, software licenses, and other sensitive information in a virtual vault locked with a PBKDF2 protected master password. By default, this encrypted vault is stored on your company’s servers for a monthly fee.

1Password is available as a containerized Snap package. If you’re happy with snapping, skip this tutorial and install Password Manager from your Ubuntu software.

Download and install DEB packages:

1Password for Linux was available for testing last year. It’s finally stable. You can download the .deb binary from the link below.

Get the .deb for your Ubuntu-based system and double-click to install it.

1 passwordapt Manually add the repository.

The apt repository is added automatically when you install the .deb package. If not, you can add them manually by running the following commands one at a time.

1.) First, open the terminal from the system app launcher.

2.) When the terminal opens, run the command to install the curl tool.

                      sudo apt install curl

3.) Next, run the curl command to install the apt repository key.

                      curl -sS | sudo gpg --dearmor --output /usr/share/keyrings/1password-archive-keyring.gpg

4.) Then add the apt repository with the command:

                      echo 'deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/1password-archive-keyring.gpg]
                      /amd64 stable main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/1password.list

5.) Add the debsig-verify policy to verify the signature of the deb package.

                      sudo mkdir -p /etc/debsig/policies/AC2D62742012EA22/
                      curl -sS | sudo tee /etc/debsig/policies/AC2D62742012EA22/1password.pol

                      sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/debsig/keyrings/AC2D62742012EA22
                      curl -sS | sudo gpg --dearmor --output /usr/share/debsig/keyrings/AC2D62742012EA22/debsig.gpg

6.) Finally, update the package cache and install 1password.

                      sudo apt update && sudo apt install 1password

Uninstall 1password.

To remove the 1password password manager, run the following command:

                      sudo apt remove --autoremove 1password

To delete the apt repository, delete the configuration file with the following command:

                      sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/1password.list
