Abiword is a free open source lightweight word processor for Linux. You can use abiword instead of LibreOffice. However, it uses far less resources than LibreOffice. It supports OpenOffice documents, Microsoft Word documents, WordPerfect documents, Rich Text Format documents, HTML and more. Other useful features include mail merge, command line support, spell checker, and plug-in support to extend the functionality. It is released under the GNU General Public License.
Install Abiword on Ubuntu
Abiword is available in the default Ubuntu repository and flat hub. You can install Abiword using the terminal software. Open a terminal (ctrl + alt + t) and run the following command to install Abiword on your Ubuntu system.
sudo apt update
sudo apt install abiword
If you don’t like the terminal method, you can also install it from the Ubuntu Software Center. After installation, you can open it from the show application list or with the following command.
Install Abiword via Flatpak.
You can also install abiword via the flatpak package.the first Install flatpak and flathub on Ubuntu.. Then run under the abiwordflatpak install command in your terminal. Install the latest abiword on Ubuntu
flatpak install flathub com.abisource.AbiWord
You can run abiword flatpak using the following command:
flatpak run com.abisource.AbiWord
