How to install an Alacritty terminal emulator via PPA on Ubuntu 20.04

This simple tutorial will show you how to install the fastest terminal emulator Alacritty on Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 20.10 and Linux Mint 20 via PPA.

Alacritty Is a cross-platform GPU-accelerated terminal emulator that runs on macOS, Linux, BSD, and Windows. This is free open source software with an emphasis on simplicity and performance. And it has Vi mode, search, Vi search and more.

To install the software PPA repository Includes the latest packages for Ubuntu 20.04 and Ubuntu 20.10. Older versions are also available for Ubuntu 18.04.

1. Open terminal From the system application launcher. Once open, run the command to add the PPA.

                      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:aslatter/ppa

Enter the user password for the sudo prompt (without asterisk feedback) and press Enter to continue.

2. When you add the PPA, the system package cache is also updated automatically, but run the apt command to install the terminal emulator.

                      sudo apt install alacritty

Once installed, open it from the System Application Launcher or press Ctrl + Alt + T on your keyboard.

Uninstall Alacritty:

To remove the terminal emulator, run the following command:

                      sudo apt remove --auto-remove alacritty

To remove Ubuntu PPA, run the command in your terminal.

                      sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:aslatter/ppa
