How to install Conky & Conky Manager on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

This short tutorial shows how to install Conky Manager, a graphical front end for Conky System Monitor, on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Conky A lightweight system monitor that displays all kinds of information on your desktop.

Conky Manager is a graphical tool for managing Conky configuration files. Provides options to start/stop, browse, and edit Conky themes installed on your system.

Install Conky and Conky Manager on Ubuntu 20.04.

of “Linux Mint Türkiye” Team PPA Includes the Conky Manager package for Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 20.04.

1.) Open a terminal from the system application launcher. Then run the command to add the PPA.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linuxmint-tr/araclar

Enter the user password for the sudo prompt (without asterisk feedback) and press Enter to continue.

2.) Then use the command to install Conky and Conky Manager.

sudo apt update

sudo apt install conky conky-all conky-manager conky-manager-extra

The package conky-manager-extra Contains a list of conky configuration files and themes.

Finally, launch Conky Manager from the System App Launcher, select a widget or theme to run and enjoy!

Known issues and solutions:

The default list of widgets and themes has some running issues on Ubuntu 20.04 desktops.

Select a configuration file from the list and click the pencil icon to edit it with a text editor. When the file opens, do the following:

  • Remove the border and title button of the conky window.

    If your conky starts as a separate window with close, minimize and maximize buttons, you can remove them to lock the conky to your desktop in the following ways:

    Change own_window_type normal To own_window_type desktop

  • Set transparent conky background.

    To set the transparency of the conky background, add the following line (or set the value if it exists) (change the number 0 to be semi-transparent).

    own_window_argb_visual yes
    own_window_argb_value 0

How to install Conky & Conky Manager on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Uninstall Conky and Conky Manager.

It is recommended that you remove Conky Manager PPA after installing the package, as the package contains many unwanted software packages.

sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:linuxmint-tr/araclar

To remove Conky and Conky manager run commands:

sudo apt remove --autoremove conky conky-all conky-manager
