How to install Firefox 70 on Ubuntu / Linux Mint

Mozilla recently released Firefox 70 with more performance improvements, longer battery life, and more attention to user privacy. This is the latest version of the popular open source browser that can be installed on Windows, Linux and macOS. You can install Firefox 70 on Ubuntu from the APT repository or download it manually .deb Package and install from it.

Install Firefox 70 on Ubuntu / Linux Mint

The latest version of the Firefox browser-Firefox 70 is available from the Ubuntu / Linux mint update repository.

Update the APT index.

sudo apt-get update

Confirm that Firefox 70 is available for installation.

$ sudo apt policy firefox
firefox:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 70.0+build2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
  Version table:
     70.0+build2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 500
        500 http://nova.clouds.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64 Packages

To install Firefox 70 on Ubuntu / Linux Mint Desktop OS, run the following command.

sudo apt install firefox

Confirm the installation status of the Firefox version we checked earlier.

$ sudo apt policy firefox
firefox:
  Installed: 70.0+build2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
  Candidate: 70.0+build2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
  Version table:
