This is a quick guide on how to install the latest Mozilla Firefox Quantum Beta or Nightly (nightly version) in Linux Mint or Ubuntu from the PPA repository.
The unstable Firefox build is for those who want to test new software before it is released to submit bug reports, try new features, or test websites in Firefox before the new stable version is released. That’s because it may contain errors, unfinished functions, or they may stop working altogether.
Install Firefox Quantum Beta in Linux Mint or Ubuntu from the PPA repository
Installing Firefox Beta in Linux Mint or Ubuntu (and any Ubuntu-based Linux distribution) via PPA will overwrite your current stable installation of Mozilla Firefox! If you want to try it without installing it, please download the binary file from the following location Mozilla.
To add the official PPA for Firefox Beta and install or update to the latest Firefox Beta, use the following command in the terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next sudo apt update sudo apt install firefox
If you have run Firefox before, make sure to restart it after the installation is complete!
Install Firefox Nightly (Alpha) in Linux Mint or Ubuntu from the PPA repository
Installing Firefox Nightly (Alpha) from the official PPA repository will not overwrite your current Firefox installation. This means you can continue to use Firefox Stable (or Beta, if you have installed it according to the instructions above) and Firefox Nightly side by side.
Not only that, Firefox Quantum Nightly uses other profiles by default, so it will not interfere with your current Firefox Stable or Beta profile, which includes any customizations you may have made, installed plugins, open tabs, etc.
Add the Firefox and Thunderbird Nightly PPA and install the latest Firefox Nightly alpha build in Linux Mint or Ubuntu by typing the following commands in the terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa sudo apt update sudo apt install firefox-trunk
To launch the application, search for “Nightly” in your application menu.
