How to install Gnome software as Ubuntu software on Ubuntu 20.04

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS’s Ubuntu software is really a Snap Store. If you want to revert to your previous Gnome software, this simple tutorial may be helpful.

1.) Gnome Software is available in Universe Repository. You can easily install it by running the command in the terminal (press Ctrl + Alt + T to open the terminal):

Once installed, you can launch the Gnome software marked “Software” from the “Show Applications” menu.

2.) To turn Gnome software into Ubuntu software.

Important: The Snap Store is easy to get back. But I don’t know how to switch to Ubuntu software again!!! If you know, please let me know.

The Snap Store itself is a Snap application. You can delete it by running the command in the terminal.

snap remove snap-store

Run the command to edit the Gnome software .desktop file.

sudo -H gedit /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Software.desktop

When the file opens, do the following:

  • Name value Ubuntu Software..
  • The value of Icon ubuntusoftware (There is no space between the two words)

When you save the file, Ubuntu Software becomes Gnome Software.
