How to install IntelliJ IDEA 2020.3 via Ubuntu’s official Linux Tarball

This simple tutorial shows how to install IntelliJ IDEA 2020.3 Via official Linux tarball via PPA.

If you don’t like the Snap and Flatpak packages, the official Linux tarball is available on the IntelliJ IDEA download page. You can download the package, extract it, run the executable file and launch the IDE.

For simplicity, we will automatically download the tarball from the Jetbrains website, extract the source to the / opt / directory for global use, and finally create an app shortcut and launch the program from the system application menu. I have created an installer script that allows you to do this.

And Ubuntu PPA Includes the latest installer scripts for both Community Edition and Ultimate Edition IntelliJ IDEA 2020.3.

1.) Open a terminal from the system application menu. Once open, run the command to add the PPA.

                      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mmk2410/intellij-idea

Enter your user password (without asterisk feedback) and press Enter. PPA supports all current Ubuntu releases and derivatives.

2.) Next, update the package cache and install the script.

                      sudo apt update

sudo apt install intellij-idea-community

Exchange intellij-idea-community When intellij-idea-ultimate For the ultimate edition.

If all goes well, you will be able to launch the IDE from the application launcher.

How to remove a package:

To remove a PPA[ソフトウェアとアップデート]>[その他のソフトウェア]Go to or run the command in your terminal.

                      sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:mmk2410/intellij-idea

Also, to remove IntelliJ IDEA, run the command to remove the installer script. This will also remove the IDE package.

                      sudo apt remove intellij-idea-community intellij-idea-ultimate
