If KDE users want to install the latest Plasma 5.21.5 desktop, it is now available in (K) Ubuntu 21.04 backport PPA.
Plasma 5.21.5 was released over a week ago with improved stability and bug fixes. Similar to KDE Frameworks 5.81.0, these can now be installed via Kubuntu backport PPA..
(K) Install Plasma 5.21.5 on Ubuntu 21.04.
Search for and open a terminal emulator from the Start menu. Once open, run the following commands one at a time.
1. Add PPA.
To add a PPA repository, paste the following command and press Run.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
2. Installation / upgrade to Plasma 5.21.5:
For KUbuntu 21.04, you can simply run apt upgrade to install the available upgrades for all packages.
sudo apt upgrade
To install KDE Plasma on Ubuntu 21.04, run the following command:
sudo apt install kubuntu-desktop
There is a large list of packages to install. It’s a good idea to take a screenshot of the package you want to install in case you want to remove KDE later.
Finally reboot the machine to apply the changes and have fun!
