The latest Linux Mint 20.1 introduces a new application, Web App Manager, which allows you to turn any web page into a desktop application. Like regular applications, web apps have their own windows and their own icons, which can be launched from the system app menu.
For those of you who want to try out the new Linux Mint Web App Manager, here’s how to install it on Ubuntu 20.04.
Download and install the DEB binaries via a direct link.
If you want to give it a try, you can download the DEB binary package from the Linux Mintftp download page.
Get it and run the command through the Gdebi package installer or in a terminal to install the package.
sudo apt install ./Downloads/webapp-manager*.deb
Add a Linux Mint repository and receive software updates (for Web App Manager only).
You can add a Linux Mint repository and only receive app updates from that repository.
1.) First download the key (“
linuxmint-keyring_2016.05.26_all.deb” So far):
And install it via command:
sudo apt install ./Downloads/linuxmint-keyring*.deb
2.) Run the command to add the Linux Mint 20 repository.
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://packages.linuxmint.com ulyssa main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mint.list'
3.) Prioritize Ubuntu to install only webapp-manager from the Linux Mint repository.
Run the command to create a configuration file and open it in a text editor.
sudo gedit /etc/apt/preferences.d/mint-ulyssa-pin
Once open, paste the line below to save the file.
# Allow upgrading only webapp-manager from Ulyssa repository Package: webapp-manager Pin: release n=ulyssa Pin-Priority: 500 # Never prefer other packages from the Ulyssa repository Package: * Pin: release n=ulyssa Pin-Priority: 1
4.) Execute the apt update command to update the system package cache.
sudo apt update
5.) Before installing the webapp-manager package, try the following command.
sudo apt install webapp-manager --simulate
The package is not actually installed, but only the packages that are installed are listed, including the version of the package (marked with the package source, Ubuntu, or Linux Mint).
6.) To finally install the application, run the following command.
sudo apt install webapp-manager
How to remove Web App Manager:
To remove the application, open a terminal and run the following command:
sudo apt remove --auto-remove webapp-manager
To delete the Linux Mint repository, go to the relevant live[ソフトウェアとアップデート]->[その他のソフトウェア]Remove from.
You can also use the following command to delete the configuration file created to set the priority.
sudo rm /etc/apt/preferences.d/mint-ulyssa-pin
