How to install Remmina RDC 1.4.7 via PPA on Ubuntu 20.04

Install apps via apt instead of containerized Snap or Flatpak packages? Here’s how to install the latest Remmina Remote Desktop Client 1.4.7 on Ubuntu 20.04 via PPA:

Remmina is a GTK+ remote desktop client that supports RDP, VNC, SPICE, NX, XDMCP, SSH, WWW. It’s pre-installed on Ubuntu 20.04, but it’s old.

Install the Snap (or Flatpak) package from Ubuntu software. The latest .deb package is “Remina PPA Team” PPA .. So far, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 19.10, Ubuntu 20.04 are supported.

1.) Open a terminal from the system application launcher. Once open, run the command to add the PPA.

                      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:remmina-ppa-team/remmina-next

Enter the user password for the sudo prompt (without asterisk feedback) and press Enter to continue.

2.) Then upgrade the Remmina package via the software updater (update manager).

You can also run commands to install the EXEC, KWallet, NX, and WWW plugins.

                      sudo apt install remmina-plugin-exec remmina-plugin-www remmina-plugin-nx remmina-plugin-kwallet

How to restore:

To remove the PPA and downgrade Remmina to the stock version, run the command in the terminal.

                      sudo apt install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:remmina-ppa-team/remmina-next
