Is it recommended to install digiKam Photo Manager via the apt repository instead of the containerized Flatpak package? A third-party PPA maintains the latest packages for all current Ubuntu releases.
Open a terminal by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T on your keyboard or searching for “terminal” in the system application launcher. Once open, do the following steps one by one to add the PPA and install the latest digiKamdeb package.
1. Add Rob Savoury’s digiKamPPA Via command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/digikam
Enter your user password (without asterisk feedback) when prompted and press Enter to continue.
2. (Optional) The Ubuntu 18.04 PPA package requires an updated FFMpeg package. This is available by adding another PPA.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/ffmpeg4
The PPA also includes the latest digiKam for Ubuntu 16.04, but requires more dependency PPA. See the PPA link for more information.
3. Finally, run the two commands one at a time to update the system package cache and install Photo Manager.
sudo apt update sudo apt install digikam
For older versions of digiKam
.deb The package has been installed on your system. Simply launch SoftwareUpdater and upgrade your software along with other system updates.
To remove digiKam Photo Manager, open a terminal and run the command.
sudo apt remove --autoremove digikam
