This is a beginner’s guide on how to install and set up the Tor service and Tor browser on Ubuntu 20.10, Ubuntu 20.04, and Linux Mint 20. It should also work on Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 16.04.
Tor, an onion router, is a free open source service that allows you to browse the Internet anonymously. The Ubuntu main repository Tor is always out of date, but here’s how to install the latest version and receive updates via the apt repository:
How to install Tor via the official Apt repository:
Tor has an official apt repository that supports all current Ubuntu and Debian releases.
1.) Open a terminal from the system application launcher. Then run the command to enable the use of https in sources.list.
sudo apt install apt-transport-https
Enter the user password for the sudo prompt (without asterisk feedback) and press Enter.
2.) Execute the command to add the Tor repository.
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org $(lsb_release -sc) main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/tor-project.list'
Note 1: For arm64 (Raspberry Pi, etc.), 32-bit Ubuntu 18.04 / 16.04, it needs to be deleted.

$(lsb_release -sc) In a command that uses the Ubuntu codename that the system is based on (eg focal, bionic, groovy).
3.) The key ring is updated regularly and there is no valid command to install so far. Alternatively, download the latest keyring.deb package from the link below.
Then double-click, gdebi, or run the command in the terminal to install.
sudo apt install ./Downloads/deb.torproject.org-keyring*.deb
4.) Finally, update the package cache and install Tor using the two commands.
sudo apt update sudo apt install tor
Or, if you have an older version installed, use the Software Updater to update it
5.) Once installed, you can check the version of Tor and use the command to see if it is running.
tor --version systemctl status tor
How to install Tor Browser on Ubuntu:
If all goes well, install the Tor web browser.
1.) Just open a terminal and run the command.
sudo apt install torbrowser-launcher
2.) Next, search for and open the Tor browser from the system application launcher. It will automatically download and install the browser on your system.
You can also open the Tor Browser Launcher and select a mirror
3.) Once the download process is complete, in the next window if you are behind the country censorship Tor or proxy[構成]Select or[接続]Choose.
When all is done, the Tor browser will launch. that’s all. pleasant!
Uninstall Tor and Tor Browser.
To remove Tor Browser, open a terminal and run the command.
sudo apt remove torbrowser-launcher
To remove the Tor network service, run the following command:
sudo apt remove --autoremove tor
To delete the apt repository[ソフトウェアとアップデート]->[その他のソフトウェア]Open and delete the relevant line.
