How to install vim editor on Debian 10

Vim this is short form Vi IM tested… It is a free and open source command line and graphical user interface tool. This article will show you how to install the vim editor on Debian version 10 using the terminal.

First, you need to open a terminal with root privileges and update your repositories. Run the following command.

apt-get update

When the command runs, it will take a few minutes.

Then run the following command to install the vim editor.

apt-get install vim

When asked to confirm, press Enter on your keyboard and wait for the operation to complete. This may take several minutes depending on your internet connection.

When the operation is complete, you can start the vim editor. Run the following command to open the editor.


This will open an editor where you can start writing, copying and saving the file.
