Visual Studio Code can run on Linux, Windows and macOS. This short tutorial will discuss how to install Visual Studio Code on Kali Linux 2020.x. Visual Studio Code combines the simplicity of the source code editor with powerful developer tools such as IntelliSense code completion and debugging.

Install Visual Studio Code on Kali Linux

We will use the official APT repository to install Visual Studio Code on Kali Linux. Before adding the repository, update the system and install the following packages.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install curl gpg software-properties-common apt-transport-https 

Import the Microsoft GPG key to your Kali Linux:

curl -sSL https://packages.microsoft.com/keys/microsoft.asc | sudo apt-key add -

Then add VS Code’s APT repository to Kali Linux:

echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/vscode stable main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vscode.list

Finally install Visual Studio Code on Kali Linux:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install code
