Zoom is an easy-to-use and secure communication software that provides video conferencing, online meetings, chat, mobile collaboration, and webinars across multiple platforms (mobile devices, desktops, phones, and conference room systems).
In this tutorial, we will learn how to install the Zoom client on the Ubuntu 18.04 desktop so that you can join a Zoom meeting.
Download zoom pack
To download the zoom pack, navigate to Download Center, And then select a package for your specific Linux type, operating system architecture, and operating system version. In this case, you choose Ubuntu as the Linux Type, 64 OS architecture, and 14.04+ version. After that, click the download button and save the package.
You can also download packages as shown below.
After the download is complete, install the package from the GUI or CLI.
To install Zoom from the GUI, open the file manager and navigate to the download location.
Double-click or right-click the package and select Open with Software Installation. This will open the Zoom Installer. Please click installation Button to install Zoom.
When you click Install, you are prompted for a password to authorize the installation.
Enter the password and authenticate to start the installation.
Command line installation
To install Zoom from the terminal, navigate to the download location, in my case the Downloads directory, and run the following command to install Zoom
cd /home/username/Downloads dpkg -i zoom_amd64.deb
If you encounter any dependency errors as shown below, run the following command to fix them.
dpkg -i zoom_amd64.deb Selecting previously unselected package zoom. (Reading database ... 118356 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to unpack zoom_amd64.deb ... Unpacking zoom (2.4.129780.0915) ... dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of zoom: zoom depends on libxcb-xtest0; however: Package libxcb-xtest0 is not installed. dpkg: error processing package zoom (--install): ...output snipped...
To resolve this issue, run the following command and repeat the installation steps.
apt -f install
To handle dependencies automatically, just use Easy Run the installation.
apt install ./zoom_amd64.deb
After the installation is complete, you can start Zoom by following the instructions below.
After the installation is complete, click Activities Click on the upper left corner of your Ubuntu UI and type amplification Search and press Enter to launch it.
You can now join the meeting or sign in (if you already have a Zoom account). That’s all you need to install Zoom on Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop.
