How to quickly mute any notification on iPhone or iPad

There are times when a group chat gets messed up or an app won’t stop spamming you with notifications. If so, just mute notifications for the app (for an hour or for the day). We show you how it works.

Starting with iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, Apple has changed the way notifications are muted. The “Quiet delivery” function is now gone. Instead, it is being replaced by a simpler mute function.

First, find the offensive notification on the lock screen or in the notification center. Once on the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen to open Notification Center.

When you find the notification, swipe left on it.

Tap the Options button.

After swiping, tap the Options button to see your options for that notification.

Here you can select the option “Mute for an hour” or “Mute for today” to quickly mute the notification.

Once the app is muted, you will not receive audio notifications or vibration feedback when a new notification arrives. However, the notifications are still available in the Notification Center.

And that’s a good thing, because the only way to unmute an app is by using the Notification Center. There is no option for this in the settings.

To unmute an app, find the notification in Notification Center and swipe left on it. From here, tap the Options button and select the Unmute option.

In the options menu, tap Mute to unmute the app.

You will now receive notifications from the app as usual. Never want to be bothered by an app again? Just turn off the notifications!
