How to Record Audio on iPhone

Thanks to the integrated voice memos app, you can easily record and share your audio recordings on your iPhone. We’ll show you how to use the app to make your very first voice recording.

There is no specific recording limit in the Voice Memos app. As long as your iPhone has enough free space, you can still record your audio.

Record audio on iPhone using the Voice Memos app

To make your first audio recording on your iPhone, open the Voice Memos app on your phone.

In Voice Notes, tap the big red button at the bottom to start recording.

In the voice notes, tap the red button.

Your iPhone will now record the sound with its built-in microphone. Feel free to sing a song, take a note, or speak, whatever you want to record; Your iPhone listens to you.

When you’re done and want to stop recording, tap the big red button at the bottom of the voice memos.

From the voice memos, tap the red stop button.

Your audio recording is now saved in the app. To play it, tap the recording, then tap the play icon.

Rename a voice recording on the iPhone

You may want to name your recordings so that they are easy to identify.

To do this, tap the recording that you want to rename in Voice Notes.

Select a recording in Voice Notes.

Tap the current recording name to make it editable. Then enter a new name for the recording and press Enter.

Rename a recording to Voice Notes.

Your recording will now use your newly specified name.

Share a voice recording on iPhone

You can share your voice memos recordings using the standard iPhone sharing menu. This means that you can share your recordings using the Files app, Google Drive, and even email them to someone.

To access the sharing menu, open Voice Notes and tap the recording you want to share.

Select the recording you want to split.

In the lower left corner of your recording, tap the three dots.

Tap the three dots under the recording.

From the menu that appears, choose Share.

Choose Share from the menu.

The standard sharing menu on your iPhone will open. Select here where you want to share your recording.

Select an option from the iPhone's sharing menu.

Delete a voice recording on iPhone

If you no longer need a voice recording, you can delete one or more recordings at once in voice memos.

To do this, open Voice Notes and tap “Edit” in the upper right corner.

In Voice Notes, tap Edit.

Select the audio recordings that you want to delete.

Select the recording to be deleted.

In the lower right corner of Voice Notes, tap Delete.

At the bottom right, tap Delete.

Voice memos move your selected recordings to the “Recently Deleted” folder. The recordings stay here for 30 days and will then be permanently removed.

To permanently delete your recordings without keeping them an additional 30 days, tap the Recently Deleted folder on the main Voice Memos screen.

In Voice Notes, tap Recently Deleted.

In the upper right corner of the Recently Deleted screen, tap Edit.

From the Recently Deleted screen, choose Edit.

Select the recordings you want to delete, then tap Delete in the lower right corner.

Top: If you want to recover your deleted audio recordings, tap the Recover option instead.

Select a recording and tap on

In the menu that opens, select “Delete recording”.

Warning: You cannot restore your recordings after they have been permanently deleted. Make sure you really want to delete them before tapping on “Delete Recording”.

At the prompt, tap Delete Recording.

Your recordings are now deleted.
