How to Recover a Deleted File from Microsoft Teams

Teams is great for storing, sharing, and collaborating on files. One thing he lacks is a trash can. So if you accidentally delete a file, how can you get it back? How to Recover Deleted Files from Microsoft Teams.

Every time you create a new team in Microsoft Teams, a SharePoint site is set up in the background. Each channel has its own folder in the “Documents” library on this SharePoint site. If a file has been deleted from Teams, the place to restore it is on this SharePoint site.

Where are your Microsoft Teams files stored?

To access the SharePoint site, open the Files tab in the Microsoft Teams application and click Open in SharePoint. Depending on your screen size, you may need to click the three dot menu icon to access the option.

This will open the SharePoint site attached to the team (you may need to sign in to SharePoint with your Microsoft account details first). To see all files that have been deleted from the team, click the Trash Can.

Select the file you want to restore by clicking the circle next to it, then choose the Restore button.


Now click on “Documents” and the folder corresponding to the channel in which the file was located (In this case, the file was located in the “Policies” channel in Teams.).

Go back to the Microsoft Teams application and click the refresh icon on the Files tab to view the restored file.
