How to rotate a picture on iPhone and iPad

If some of your iPhone or iPad photos are misaligned, don’t worry: the Photos app has a built-in feature that lets you rotate a photo 90 degrees at a time. How to use it.

First, open the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad and navigate to the photo that you want to rotate.

Before doing anything else, it’s important to understand that Photos will remember the rotation changes to your original image. If you want to keep an original (unrotated) copy of the image, we recommend that you make a duplicate of the image first for editing. To do this, tap the Split button (which looks like a rounded square with an arrow pointing upwards) and select the “Duplicate” option.

When you’re ready to rotate, tap the edit button on the top toolbar to enter photo editing mode.

On the photo editing screen, tap the Crop button on the bottom toolbar (it looks like two right angles with dotted arrows around them).

In edit mode, tap the Crop button (box with dotted arrows).

Tap the Rotate icon at the top of the screen (it’s a rounded square with a curved arrow pointing left across the top-right corner).

On the top toolbar, tap the Rotate button (box with the left arrow).

This immediately rotates the image 90 degrees to the left (counterclockwise).

Every time you tap the rotate button, rotate it 90 degrees again. With four taps, for example, you have the picture back in its original position. When you are satisfied with the rotated image, tap the Done button on the lower toolbar.

Tap Done to save the rotated image.

The thumbnail of the picture is updated in the photo library.

You can now share the rotated image as usual and the recipient will see it in the correct orientation.
