How to set up custom email domains in iCloud

With the introduction of iCloud + (plus), Apple also offers subscribers the option of setting up a custom email domain. If you’ve purchased your own domain or are planning to purchase it, you can manage email addresses with that domain through iCloud Mail.

Why use a custom domain?

Maybe you have your own domain to present your work on the web, e.g. B. a portfolio. Or maybe you set up a domain name for your family to share news and events. By adding these types of custom domains to iCloud, you can use Apple’s Mail app to manage your email on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You don’t have to worry about a separate server or email service, and for a family, everyone can have their own email address with the family domain name.

Note: At the time of this writing, the custom email domain role is still in the beta Execution. You can visit set it up. Just keep in mind that with everyone beta Version it may not be stable yet. After the public introduction, expected in autumn 2021, you can visit to create your custom email domain.

Set up your custom email domain in iCloud

Sign in to your iCloud account with your Apple ID and password, then click Account Settings.

Scroll down to the Custom Email Aliases section and click on “Use Custom Email Aliases”.

Note: Your button may say “Manage” instead of “Use custom email aliases”.

You will be asked if you would like to set this up for yourself or for you and your family. If you use Family Sharing, each family member can use three email addresses for the domain. Select “Just You” or “You and Your Family”.

Enter the domain you want to use and click “Next”.

On the next screen, confirm the domain name above for step 1.

Then, in step 2, add any existing email addresses that you are using in that domain. If you are not currently using any email addresses in the domain, you can click Skip. You can create a new email address after you have completed setting up the domain.

Warning: Don’t add the email addresses your family members use on this domain, as this will append the addresses to you.

When adding an email address, click “Confirm” that you have added all the required addresses. You will then be asked to confirm this via email before proceeding. So open your email app and look for the message from Apple.

You will receive an email at each address added. Simply click “Confirm” to confirm that you own the email address.

Then return to the iCloud screen and click “OK” after verifying the email address.

The next step is to copy and update your domain’s records. For step 3 click on “View” and you will see a window with the required settings. You can select and copy the text for each of the records. Then just paste them in the correct location for your registrar, e.g. B. GoDaddy, or change your zone file if you manage your own DNS. Click Done when you’re done.

Finally, for step 4, click on “Complete setup” and then on “Confirm” that you have successfully updated the entries for your domain.

After a moment, you should see confirmation that your domain is ready to be used with iCloud Mail. Click on Continue”.

You will then be asked which email address you want to use as the default. Select the address and click “Next”.

When you see the confirmation afterwards, click “Done” and you are done.

Create a new email address

Once your domain is set up with iCloud Mail, you can create a new email address if necessary. Return to the Custom Email Aliases section in iCloud and click Use Custom Email Aliases (or Manage).

Click the plus sign to the right of your name. Enter the new email address and click “Add Email Address”.

When you set up the custom domain for your family, each family member will receive an email at the address associated with their Apple ID for Family Sharing. You can click the iCloud Settings link in the email and follow the instructions to set up your email address.

When you’re done, you can take a test and send a message to your custom email domain. Then enjoy easy inbox management via iCloud Mail in any browser or on your Apple device.
