How to Share iPhone Health Data with Family and Doctors

Your health data recorded by Apple Watch and iPhone is saved in the Health app for iPhone. As long as your iPhone (and that of the recipient) is running iOS 15 or higher, you can now share health data with family, friends or your doctor. We’ll show you how.

Share data from the iPhone Health app

You can share the data from the iPhone Health app, provided that the other participant is in your contacts and also has an iPhone with iOS 15 or higher. If neither of you still have iOS 15, then you can update your iPhone to install it. In order for this feature to be useful, you need to share some health data as well.

To share health data, launch the Health app and tap the Share tab.

Tap Share With Someone, then find the person you want to share with. You can only share health information with people who are already on your contact list. So make sure to add your doctor beforehand using the Phone or Contacts app.

Next, you’ll be asked if you want to “View Suggested Topics” to speed up the process, or choose exactly what to share by choosing “Set up manually” instead.

The next screen will ask if you want to share health alerts like high heart rate notifications.

If you choose Set Up Manually, you’ll see a full list of health information to share, or a condensed list if you’ve chosen Apple’s recommendations instead. Next to a category, tap “Show All” and enable each option you want to share.

Finally, tap on “Next” to finalize your decision. You’ll see a list of the parts you’ve selected, which you can customize by tapping the “Edit” button nearby. Tap the Preview button to see what your data will look like, then use the Share button to share it.

Useful when you have the data

Medical data is sensitive data. You should be careful who you share it with, even if it seems harmless. Remember, you can go back to the Share tab to see what you’ve shared and with whom.

Sharing your health information can be a useful tool for diagnosing certain medical conditions or for keeping track of your family’s fitness. Unfortunately, the feature isn’t that useful if you don’t have the data to share.
