Install Google Chrome Browser on CentOS 8

CentOS 8 is not included Google Chrome Installed by default. So if you are running a CentOS 8 desktop and want to use the Chrome browser, you must install it. Follow this guide to learn how to install Google Chrome browser on CentOS 8 desktop.

Install Google Chrome Browser on CentOS 8

You have two options to install Google Chrome on CentOS 8 desktop system;

  1. Download Google Chrome RPM binary and use install Revolutions Either dnf Package manager
  2. Create a Google Chrome Linux repository and then install it from Repos.

Run system update

Make sure your system packages are up to date.

dnf update

Install Google Chrome using RPM Binary Package

Well, you have two options here:

Get a link to the Google Chrome RPM binary and install it automatically as shown below;

dnf install https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm

If you have enough time, download the Google Chrome RPM binary package for your respective system architecture from Google Chrome page And install it as shown below.

For example, download a binary package for a 64-bit system;

wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm

After downloading, use dnf The command runs the installation as shown below. This ensures that all required dependencies are taken care of.

dnf localinstall google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm

Install Google Chrome from the Chrome repository

To create a Google chrome Linux repository on CentOS 8, execute the following command;

cat << EOL >> /etc/yum.repos.d/google-chrome.repo
[google-chrome]
name=google-chrome
baseurl=http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=https://dl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub

After the repo is in place, install Google Chrome Stable on the CentOS 8 desktop.

dnf install google-chrome-stable

After installation, you may want to verify the version of Google Chrome browser you have installed.

google-chrome --version

Either

google-chrome-stable --version

Both commands give you the same result.

Run Google Chrome Stable on CentOS 8
