Install the latest Google Chrome browser on Kali Linux

Do you want to install Google Chrome on Kali Linux 2020.x / 2019.x? Google Chrome is one of the most popular modern web browsers available for Linux, macOS, Windows, and Android devices. The Chrome browser is designed to meet all browsing needs quickly, intuitively, and securely.

Google Chrome browser packages are not directly available in most Linux distribution repositories. This is mainly a closed license issue for the product. Therefore, we will install Google Chrome on Kali Linux by downloading the Debian package file provided by Google or manually adding the Chrome APT repository to our Kali Linux computer.

Step 1: Download Google Chrome .deb package

Use wget to download the latest Google Chrome package for Debian-based Linux systems.

sudo apt update
sudo apt -y install wget
wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb

Step 2: Install Google Chrome Browser on Kali Linux

After downloading the package, use the following command to install Google Chrome on Kali Linux.

sudo apt install ./google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb

Accept the installation prompt:

Note, selecting 'google-chrome-stable' instead of './google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb'

Step 3: Launch Google Chrome on Kali Linux

We have completed the installation of Google Chrome on the Kali Linux system. The application can be launched from a terminal or GUI application launcher.

To launch it from a terminal, type:

$ google-chrome-stable

If you want to launch from the GUI, search for Chrome.

Start the initial setup to start using it.

Step 4: Update Google Chrome on Kali Linux

APT repository is configured after installation from Google Chrome on Kali Linux .deb package.

To update it, simply run the following command:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
