VLC is the most commonly used media player on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS operating systems. Most Linux distributions include the VLC media package in their upstream repositories, although the software may not be pre-packaged in the base OS bloatware. VLC media player used to be automatically installed during the Kali Linux installation process, but this is no longer the case.

VLC Media Player provides some advanced url style formatting functions, such as:

  • HTTP streaming: Http: // <服务器地址>[:<server port>]/[<file>]
  • RTSP video on demand streaming: Rtsp: // <服务器地址>[:<server port>]/ <流名称>
  • Execute playlist commands: Vlc: // <命令>
  • Various multimedia file formats: * .mpg, *. vob, *. avi, *. mp3, *. ogg etc.
  • DVD device: dvd: ///dev/dvd)

VLC is a cross-platform application that can be installed on Windows, Linux and macOS. The installation of VLC Media Player on Kali Linux is done through the APT repository. You can also choose to install VLC on Kali Linux from the Snap package, but the apt installation is sufficient.
