Iotop is a free open source disk I / O monitoring command line system administrator utility for Linux. You can use this tool to track specific processes that can cause high disk I / O reads / writes. This is to provide an option to monitor Linux disk I / O usage details. It is based on Python and is released under the GNU GPL license. You can view all I / O utilization for each process or thread on your system.
Install Iotop on Ubuntu
Iotop Available in Ubuntu‘s default repository. Therefore, it can be installed from a command line terminal application. Open a terminal application (ctrl + alt + t) and run the two commands one at a time.
sudo apt update
sudo apt install iotop
The Linux kernel interface on which iotop depends now requires root privileges or NET_ADMIN functionality. Therefore, after installing iotop, execute the following command to start it.
All running processes are displayed with current disk I / O usage details.

sudo iotop --only
