KDE’s Kdenlive Video Editor 21.04 was released today with many usability improvements and some great new features.
Kdenlive 21.04 introduces a new speech text feature that automatically transcodes speech into text and supports 17 languages and dialects using official models.
This release includes[表示]It also includes a new media browser that you can enable from the menu. It allows you to easily browse the file system and add clips to bins or timelines by dragging and dropping.
There’s also a new effect typewriter effect with three animation modes, an alpha strobe effect on text, images, or videos, and an effects zone that applies effects to specific areas of the track or timeline.
Other features Kdenlive 21.04 include:
- Zoom bar on the timeline.
- New icons and features in the effect’s keyframe panel.
- New online resource widget
- Add an AV1 rendering profile.
- Re-enable audio playback at reverse speed.
- Add an “Unused Clips” filter to your project bin.
- Add channel selection to the audio waveform filter.
- Add the ITU2020 color space to the clip properties.
- Treat GIFs as videos rather than images.
How to install Kdenlive 21.04 on Ubuntu:
1.) Add Ubuntu PPA.
Open Terminal from the System Applications menu and run the command to add the PPA.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-stable
Enter your password when prompted (without asterisk feedback) and press Enter to continue.
2.) Install or upgrade Kdenlive.
If you have an older version of kdenlive installed, you can upgrade it using Update Manager.
Alternatively, run the command in your terminal to install the video editor.
sudo apt install kdenlive
Note For non-KDE users, Kdenlive is installed with a large list of KDE libraries.
To purge the PPA and downgrade the Kdenlive package, run the command in your terminal.
sudo apt install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-stable
To remove the PPA only, run the following command:
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-stable
To remove Kdenlive, run the following command:
sudo apt remove --autoremove kdenlive kdenlive-data
