Leaks indicate ultra broadband and a Samsung 5G chip in the new Pixel series

So far we know that the Pixel series will be available in two sizes and different colors this fall. Tensor, Google’s in-house SoC, will be found in both the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro.

Android 12 Beta 4 Earlier this month it was announced that the Pixel 6 series will be code-named “g5123b” for Samsung’s Exynos 5123 modem. Reuters has now confirmed this, citing “two sources familiar with the situation”. According to reports, the Pixel 6 series will feature 5G mmWave, a communication protocol only available in the US.

In addition, an article in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) confirms that the Pixel 6 series, like the Galaxy S21 series, will contain an ultra-wideband (UWB) processor. In relation to Android 12, the article refers to a ‘pixel-specific internal UWB-HAL’, presumably to avoid problems in Android 13.

Pixel 5a announced: specs, price and availability

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are expected to use the UWB for Near Share, which Google claims was “designed with privacy at its core”. 9to5 Google also states that UWB will run on the Pixel 6 series in Android 12 before expanding in Android 13.

The most intriguing and exciting piece of information, however, is that the Pixel 6 supposedly comes with a 5-year warranty on software updates. just like Samsung Galaxy flagships. It’s unclear for now whether this will include operating system updates or just security patches, but we hope for the former. This was determined thanks to a comment made by a Google engineer on the Android code base about the Ultra Wideband (UWB) capability of the Pixel 6. That’s the high-precision location tracking technology that powers Apple’s AirTag and Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag +.

The same technology seems to be coming to the Pixel 6 phones as previously speculated, and Pixel tags aren’t entirely out of the question. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be able to compete with smartphones like that Galaxy S21 and the iPhone 12, both of which have ultra-broadband.
