Introduction: Twake is a modern-looking collaboration platform that focuses on Kanban project management methods. You can use it for free, choose a paid plan, or host it yourself.
Twake: Modern open source collaboration platform similar to Nextcloud
We have considered Nextcloud as one of the best options for promoting remote work and collaboration. At FOSS, we use it to store our internal documents, manage tasks through Kanban, etc.
I’m sure you will find several other options in the collaboration platform. Here, I will briefly introduce you to some things I stumbled upon, namely w.
Twake is a modern representative on a collaboration platform, designed to provide a rich user experience and useful features. Unlike Nextcloud or ownCloud, you can choose to use a formal managed instance without any hassle, or you can self-host it as needed.
In order to test its working principle and function, I used a free account to register an account on their official instance.
Let’s take a look at some of the main highlights of Twake.
Features of Twake
You can get all the features that can be found in the standard collaboration platform. You have the following tools:
- Store files
- Manage to-do list
- Create a Kanban project board with task deadlines, tags, subtasks and calendar views
- Shared calendar
- video conference
- Relax like a discussion board
- Collaborative editing of documents, even MS Office documents
- Share files or invite external parties to discuss
The available functions depend on the functions you use. For example, if you self-host it, there are no restrictions and you can control whatever you want.
However, if you choose to use the free plan on the official instance, you will only be able to use one workspace, without guest collaborators and other restrictions.
Here, I will list all the key features, and the rest are for you to explore:

Sum up thoughts
Twake is made by Linna Gora, This is an open source company located in France. Their servers are hosted in the European Union and comply with GDPR.
Twake looks like an incredible platform for collaboration while providing a rich user experience. I did find it a bit slow on the login page, so this is where they can improve. In addition, it is a good choice for Trello, Sunsama, Asana and other platforms.
