Mixxx DJ Software – How to install Mixxx on Ubuntu

Mixxx is free open source DJ software for Windows, MacOS and Linux. You can use it to create a live digital music file mix on your system. It comes with built-in mapping of DJ controller hardware, programmable mapping system, and Auto DJ support. It supports sound effects, record playback control playback, BPM, music key detection, and master synchronization. Other important features include support for 64 sampler decks, iTunes music library management, Traktor and MusicBrainz library integration, and recording and broadcast support. Supports MP3, OGG, WAVE, FLAC, AAC (M4A) playback and WAVE, OGG, MP3 recording.

Install Mixxx DJ software on Ubuntu

Here on Ubuntu, you can install Mixxx DJ software via official ubuntu repositories, PPA, Flatpak, and native DEB package files.

Install Mixxx via PPA.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mixxx/mixxx
sudo apt update
sudo apt install mixxx

Install Mixxx via Flatpak.

Mixxx DJ software can be installed via flatpak and flathub. If you do not have Flat Pack installed on your system, please follow the guide below first.

How to install Flat Pack on Ubuntu:

After installing flatpak, run this command in the terminal.

flatpak install flathub org.mixxx.Mixxx

This command will launch the Mixxx DJ software.

flatpak run org.mixxx.Mixxx

Install Mixxx via Ubuntu repository.

This method is not recommended because this version is usually older. In the terminal run

sudo apt update
sudo apt install mixxx

Install Mixxx via DEB.

Download Mixxx

Download Mixxx in .deb file format from the link above and save it in your download folder. Execute the following command.

cd Downloads
sudo dpkg -i mixxx-2.2.3-bionic-amd64.deb
sudo apt-get install -f

Where “mixxx-2.2.3-bionic-amd64.deb” is the downloaded mixxx file name.
