[New Ubuntu PPA] How to install GIMP 2.10.20 on Ubuntu 20.04

This brief tutorial shows how to install the latest GIMP image editor 2.10.20 on Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 18.04, Linux Mint 19.x, and 20 via the new PPA repository.

GIMP is available as both a containerized Snap package and a Flatpak package, but I prefer to install the GIMP deb package via the apt repository and receive updates via Software Updater.

Otto kesselgulasch deleted PPA For personal reasons. Latest 2.10.20 package This unofficial PPA .. So far, Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 20.04 are supported.

How to install GIMP 2.10.20 via PPA on Ubuntu:

Note: Unlike previous PPA packages, there is no support for Python scripts.

1.) Open a terminal from the system application launcher. Once open, run the command to add the PPA.

                      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/gimp

Enter the user password for the sudo prompt (without asterisk feedback) and press Enter to continue.

2.) For older versions of GIMP .deb The package is installed. Upgrade via the SoftwareUpdater (Update Manager) utility.

Alternatively, run the apt command in the terminal to install GIMP.

                      sudo apt update

sudo apt install gimp gimp-gmic

How to restore:

To restore GIMP to a stock version in the main Ubuntu repository, run the command to purge PPA.

                      sudo apt install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/gimp
