The official shutter PPA has been resurrected! Because I am already maintaining a PPA shutter Screenshot tool. The developers of this tool are looking for someone to maintain the official Shutter PPA, and they think I will maintain it.
so from now on I will update Official shutter PPA With the new version. Currently, the official Shutter PPA has the latest Shutter (ported to GTK3) for Ubuntu 21.04 and 20.04 (LTS), as well as Linux distributions based on these Ubuntu versions, such as Pop!_OS 21.04 or 20.04, or Linux Mint 20. X. You can also use PPA to install the gnome-web-photo package (although this depends on the old library), which allows Shutter to take screenshots of the website.
If you are using Linux Uprising Shutter PPA, Please delete it and add the official Shutter PPA. However, I will continue to update the Linux Uprising Shutter PPA (reflected from the official PPA) for some time to provide updates for those who do not read this content. At the end of the article, there are instructions on how to delete the Linux Uprising Shutter PPA and add the official PPA.
Not familiar with shutter? This is a desktop screenshot tool that can take screenshots of your complete desktop, monitor, rectangular area or window (even website) with optional delay. Then, you can easily edit the screenshots using its built-in editor, which allows cropping images and adding various annotation elements such as text, lines, arrows, highlights, shapes, and even the review part of the screen.

The tool also includes plugins that allow you to apply effects to screenshots (such as barrel distortion, sepia, watermarks, etc.), built-in actions that can be triggered after the screenshot is taken, and other features.
Screenshots, either as they are or after editing, can be uploaded directly from Shutter to Imgur, Dropbox or other image hosting services.
You might also like Ksnip or Flameshot screenshot tools.
The application did not continue to use Gtk2 until recently, so it has been removed from the official repositories of some Linux distributions (including Debian/Ubuntu). In version 0.96 released in May 2021, Shutter was ported to GTK3, but it will take some time to wait for the Linux distribution to provide it in its repository again.
Before that (if there is a newer Shutter version in the PPA), if you use Ubuntu or an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution (Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, etc., based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or 21.04), you can use the official Shutter PPA to install The latest version of Shutter screenshot tool.
It should be noted that Shutter does not yet support Wayland!
You can add the official Shutter PPA and install the tool on Ubuntu 21.04 or 20.04 and Linux distributions based on these Ubuntu versions (Linux Mint 20.x, Pop!_OS 20.04 or 21.04, etc.):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shutter/ppa
sudo apt update #this is no longer needed on Ubuntu but its required on Linux Mintsudo apt install shutter
You can also install the optional
gnome-web-photo (It depends on some old libraries) Use Shutter from this PPA to capture a complete screenshot of the website:
sudo apt install gnome-web-photo
In order to have a tray icon when using GNOME Shell and Ubuntu AppIndicators extension, install the PPA package
gir1.2-appindicator3-0.1 As a “recommended” package (not as a hard dependency, so it is not mandatory for every desktop environment). If you are missing a tray icon, check if there is
gir1.2-appindicator3-0.1 The package is already installed, if not, please install it:
sudo apt install gir1.2-appindicator3-0.1
If you want to remove the Linux Uprising Shutter PPA (because it will not be maintained for a long time, please use the official Shutter PPA mentioned above), you can use the following command:
sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:linuxuprising/shutter
Not using Ubuntu or an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution?Look at the shutter Installation instructions for other Linux distributions.
