PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA BSOD: Step by Step Solution

You have just updated your PC, either adding a new graphics card, a Wi-Fi card or any improvement. Suddenly we find that our PC does not start showing a blue screen of death with an error called PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. We reboot and again it appears as a recurring nightmare over and over again. If you have this problem, follow our guide to solve this problem.

There is nothing more annoying than buying new hardware and finding that we cannot use it due to the fact that it generates a blue screen in Windows. The PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error is one of the most common errors when updating the hardware of our PC and although it is not fatal it is very annoying.

What is the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA BSOD?

This BSOD or blue screen of death failure occurs when a reboot is performed after the installation, removal or replacement of one of the components of a PC that uses Windows as the PC’s operating system. This failure can occur for several reasons:

  • The hardware driver or driver is bad or not compatible with the system.
  • One component of the system has been incorrectly replaced by another.
  • The computer hardware is in poor condition.

This error usually occurs during system restart as PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA under the value 0x00000050 or 0x50. The failure is due to the fact that the CPU accesses the section at that address of virtual memory, which is where the hardware drivers are stored, which are essential for Windows to run correctly.

The reason why Windows launches this BSOD is simple, with the hardware functioning incorrectly it cannot communicate properly with the user, and in some cases it could even break a component or the entire system. That is why Windows preventively not having the hardware drivers

Accessing Safe Mode with Networking in Windows

If you want to prevent this problem before changing the hardware in your system, it is best to prevent it, since a previously incorrectly installed or corrupt driver may be the one that then triggers the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and not the new hardware. How can an already installed driver cause an error? The fact that the software works does not guarantee that it works correctly. So there are times when a small change causes catastrophic mistakes.

First of all, make sure you can enter Windows 10 Safe Mode with Networking, which works using generic hardware drivers, allowing you to use Windows. Obviously you cannot use the newly installed hardware, but it is clear that it is necessary to be able to interact with the PC in a normal way in order to solve the problem in front of us.

To do this, it is necessary to press a key, which opens the following menu:

Select the option “Troubleshoot”, you will see another screen of the same options where you must select “Advanced options”

In the next window select “Startup Settings”

Once the following screen appears, click on the restart button

We are already in the last step, press the “5” key to activate the safe mode with networking.

You will see that Windows starts normally without the error appearing. Have we solved it? Far from it, we have simply loaded Windows without the problematic hardware drivers, but this does not allow us to use the hardware in its entirety without problems which is what we are interested in.

Fixing the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA BSOD

First press the Windows and X keys at the same time, from the menu that appears select Windows PowerShell (Administrator), give it permission to make changes to the system if you run it for the first time. After this, the following window should appear:

PowerShell is a terminal with which we can manage the system through text commands, the problem of all the ones that you must execute is sfc / scannow. Try to write it correctly or it will not recognize the command:

Once the system check is done, run the DISM.exe / Online / Cleanup-image / Scanhealth command. Do not run them at the same time as the sfc command, wait for the first command to finish and be patient before running the DISM command.

The third command we will run is DISM.exe / Online / Cleanup-image / Restorehealth. As in the other commands, we recommend that you wait until the previous one has finished to execute it.

Once this is done you should be able to run the hardware on your PC without any problems. In the event that the problem is not solved then it is a failure of the hardware itself. Therefore, we recommend that you contact the after-sales service and process the hardware warranty so that they can repair it or replace it with a version that works without problems.
