This simple tip shows how to get a text location entry in the default Nautilus file browser on Ubuntu 20.04.
For temporary use, you can just press Ctrl + L on your keyboard to get the path of the current file or folder.
When you press Ctrl + L, the default path bar becomes the location entry and you can copy and paste it.
To have Nautilus permanently display the text path entry in the location bar:
Instead of the path bar, you can always use the text input entry in the location toolbar by running the following command in Terminal.
- Press Ctrl + Alt + T to open a terminal and execute the command.
gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry true
- You can also use the command to restore your changes.
gsettings reset org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry
Alternatively, using the graphical tool Dconf Editor, go to “org / gnome / nautilus / preferences” and install via Ubuntu software.
that’s it. pleasant!
