Streamlink is available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
On Linux, it can be found in the repositories of most Linux distributions as shown above Installation page, Although it may not be up to date.
The easiest way to install the latest version is to install Streamlink with its latest version PyPI package. If you use the PyPI package, delete the installed version from the repository and make sure that FFmpeg is installed on the system.
Also note that the Streamlink PyPI installation instructions mentioned are using Python 2’s “pip” on Ubuntu and Linux Mint, so if you are using an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution, please use pip3 to install the Python 3 version (and Don’t run pip with sudo, Which is not only bad for security, but also messes up your system Python.

New to Streamlink? How is this used

Play the Twitch stream with “best” quality (for these examples, I chose a random Twitch streamer):

streamlink best

If VLC is installed on your system, it will be used to play the stream by default.
You can also specify the VLC path, or use other video players. For example, use Streamlink to use mpv to stream the same Twitch link at “best” quality:

streamlink -p mpv best

For best results, the Streamlink documentation mentions to use VLC or mpv!
To display all available stream quality, run Streamlink and enter the URL without specifying any quality, for example:

Which should output the following:

[cli][info] Found matching plugin twitch for URL
Available streams: audio_only, 160p (worst), 360p, 480p, 720p, 720p60, 1080p60 (best)
