1. Have fun with the filters

What is interesting about the OnePlus 9’s camera app is that the built-in filters can be used across all lenses. So you can change the look and feel of the image with different lenses.

And it’s very easy to activate. Go to Photo Mode, tap the filters icon in the lower right corner, and you’ll see all of the filters neatly lined up at the bottom.

Just choose one of them and give your recordings a new touch.

2. Super macro record

So what if the OnePlus 9 Pro doesn’t have a dedicated macro lens? You can still use it to take great macro photos. The phone comes with an ultra-wide sensor that you can take with it close-Up shots of flowers and grains to see all the tiny details that are otherwise hidden.

In the camera app, tap the little flower-shaped icon at the top, as shown in the screenshot below.

However, if you take macro photos frequently and don’t want to toggle modes manually, it’s time to turn on the toggle for Auto Macro under Settings. Once that’s done, the camera automatically switches to super macro mode when a likely subject is detected.

3. Take high resolution photos

As mentioned earlier, the OnePlus 9 has a 48 megapixel primary shooter. However, the photos are saved in pixel-binned 12-megapixel shots by default. However, if you want to capture full resolution photos for printing, then you can. The best part is that you don’t have to turn on Pro mode to do this. This can be done directly in photo mode.

To do this, tap on the three-point symbol in the upper right corner. When you’re done, tap High-Res and that’s it.

4. Experiment with tilt-shift photography

Do you love taking dramatic photos? If so, you’ll love the OnePlus 9’s tilt-shift feature. It can be used to add a creative touch to everyday photos, especially if you enjoy capturing large crowds or beautiful landscapes.

It’s a pretty simple filter that keeps the middle part of the image in focus while the top and bottom are out of focus. And when used correctly, it gives an impression of miniature photography.

To find Tilt-Shift mode, scroll through the modes by swiping left on the mode ribbon.

In addition, you can adjust the degree of bokeh to your liking. Tap the circular icon on the left and slowly drag the slider to the left (or right) as shown in the screenshot above.

The orientation of the frame changes automatically when you switch from landscape to portrait.

5. Capture a beautiful time lapse

Time is an important element in time-lapse photography. You also need to consider the subject to determine the correct speed. For example, you don’t want to stare at a time-lapse video of a sunset forever just to watch the sun go down. However, if you add too much speed, the resulting video may look like it is skipping. Fortunately, this new OnePlus phone has nifty speed management for recording cool time-lapse videos.

You can choose between 5x to 120x. The former is used for relatively faster objects, such as people walking on a street, while the latter can be used to capture sunsets and sunrises.

To enable the modes mentioned, swipe right in Photo mode until you see Time Lapse. Then tap on one of the speed options and start recording. And while you’re at it, change the video resolution to 4K (top right corner).

When it comes to smooth time-lapse photography, a camera tripod is one of the most important camera accessories. Videos recorded without usually appear shaky.

6. Take great photos in low light

In the past few years, night mode on phones has improved by leaps and bounds. OnePlus adds a few additional modes to keep things interesting. The first mode is tripod mode. With this you can take well-lit pictures. When clicked, it will open the shutter for about 8-30 seconds, allowing the lens to capture more light. For a perfect shot, you will need a tripod to hold the phone steady.

To activate it, go to Nightscape mode and tap the little tripod icon at the top.

Then there is the starburst mode. When activated, it shows a shining star shape when the phone is pointed at a bright source.

7. Take 12-bit RAW images

If you’ve always been scared of making the leap from shooting JPG to RAW photography, let this be the right opportunity for you. The OnePlus 9 lets you take 12-bit RAW images to capture as much detail about light and color as possible. This will ensure that your photos are not easily broken in post-processing. Plus, you’ll have more data to work with as the compression algorithms preserve more original data compared to 8-bit RAW.

In the camera app, switch to Pro mode and switch the image format to RAW as shown in the screenshot below.

After that, you can take pictures in 12-bit RAW mode.

Say cheese

Aside from the above, the new OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro have several exciting features for you to play around with. We particularly like the video portrait mode, which adds a soft bokeh to the background. The best part is that it happens in real time. Then there is dynamic HDR. While some of the phones process HDR after you finish recording, this OnePlus phone lets you see the HDR results in real time. Cool right?
